Sustainable Event Venue

The Circa dome has been given a new lease on life. Originally built as the Aviodome at Schiphol Airport, it was later dismantled and rebuilt at a new location in Amsterdam—this time as Circa, the Netherlands’ first circular event venue. This also makes it a sustainable event venue where reuse is at the core. Sustainability is embedded in the design, the interior, and the way events are held here—not as a statement, but as a matter of course. For organizations that take sustainability seriously but don’t want to compromise on quality or ambiance, Circa is the place to be.

What makes Circa a sustainable
event venue?

At Circa, sustainability isn’t just a checklist—it’s a way of building, designing, and organizing. The venue is constructed entirely from reused materials, from the structure to the interior design. This is evident in every part of the building, as well as in our services and facilities. The circular nature of the venue wasn’t an afterthought—it’s the foundation upon which everything is built. Circa is a sustainable event venue with a low ecological footprint, without compromising on quality or ambiance. Circa’s facilities and interior design are part of the same circular vision.

Circularity as the Foundation of Circa

Circularity at Circa is tangible; you can see it reflected in every part of the building:

  • High insulation: EPC of 0.98% (EPC is a measure of energy efficiency); Circa Amsterdam therefore has an A+++ energy rating;
  • The building is fully lit with LED lighting;
  • Ceilings made of reclaimed wood;
  • All the walls are made of recycled plaster;
  • The walls of the sub-rooms will be covered with recycled wallpaper;
  • The front faces of the bars are made of the material from the containers in which the dome was stored;
  • The floor is made from 75% recycled materials;
  • The storefronts and flooring for a number of rooms were acquired from the Hoofddorp Tax Office;
  • Heat and cold storage system for cooling and heating the building;
  • If necessary, the building is heated using district heating. Therefore, no gas is needed.

By reusing materials instead of producing new ones, CO₂ emissions from production and transportation are avoided. The result is a circular event venue that demonstrates that sustainability and quality go hand in hand when circularity is viewed as the foundation.

Why Choose a Sustainable Event Venue?

A sustainable event venue is one where sustainability is structurally integrated into the building, its operations, and the services it provides—not as an option, but as the standard. For many organizations, the choice of venue is becoming an increasingly important factor. Sustainability goals, social responsibility, and reputation all play a role in deciding where a conference, corporate event, or business meeting will take place. A sustainable venue helps reduce an event’s environmental impact and aligns with organizations that want to plan with the future in mind. Circa demonstrates how a sustainable conference and event venue can concretely support these ambitions without compromising on the experience or professionalism.

A sustainable venue for conferences and business events

Circa is a sustainable conference and event venue that hosts a wide range of business events: from conferences and corporate dinners to galas, product launches, and company parties. For each of these gatherings, the venue offers the capacity, technical facilities, and ambiance that professional organizers need. All within an environment built entirely on the principles of circularity. This means organizations don’t have to settle for a single, fixed format, but can instead choose a sustainable foundation that adapts to the nature of their event—from an intimate dinner to a large conference.

, with sustainable access and a central location in Amsterdam

A sustainable event starts with the journey there. Circa is strategically located in Amsterdam, right off the A5 and A10 highways and 900 meters from Sloterdijk Station. This location makes it easily accessible to guests from all over the Netherlands via public transportation, bicycle, shared rides, and electric vehicles—without any detours. The more guests travel sustainably, the lower the event’s overall carbon footprint. In this way, Circa’s accessibility contributes to its positioning as a sustainable event venue that makes a difference in terms of accessibility as well.
